Sample BDS Resolution

The Twin Ports Break the Bonds Campaign is asking local groups to sign on to the following statement in support of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against the state of Israel:

WHEREAS the Palestinian people, forcibly evicted from their homeland with the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948, have long standing legitimate grievances that have not been addressed by Israel and the international community,

WHEREAS since the founding of the state of Israel, the United States government has not been an honest broker or an even-handed negotiator in the region and U.S. inaction in the face of the unresolved grievances of the Palestinian people has been a significant contributing factor to the violence in the region, including the ongoing conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan,

WHEREAS American military aid to the state of Israel has been employed continuously over the past 60 years for illegal and immoral collective punishment of the Palestinian people,

WHEREAS unless and until the above issues are resolved, violence in the region will never abate and the victims of violence on all sides will continue to grow, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED that our organization hereby declares its support for the international Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign against the state of Israel initiated by Palestinian civil society organizations in 2005, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Minnesota state legislature direct the Minnesota State Board of Investments to divest from its state of Israel bonds.
